Chapter Five of 10. Nonna Books.
Chapter Five
Nonna Books
With interest growing in the publication of children's books, it became apparent that the ROMAR Press needed to distinguish this important category and create an “imprint” specifically for children's books.
An imprint of ROMAR Press
About the Nonna Books Imprint
Nonna Books is the children’s-book imprint of ROMAR Press. Its titles carry their own name and sit in the same catalog as everything else ROMAR publishes.
Not only will this give readers a clear and immediate understanding of the kind of books grouped under Nonna Books, but I also hope aspiring authors and illustrators of children's books will recognize the importance ROMAR Press places on their success.

The story behind the name
Why “Nonna”?
“Nonna” is the name I’m called by my four grandchildren.
A little while before the first one was born, I had a dream that someone was calling out to me in the dark, shouting “Nonna! I'm coming.” Yes, I took that as a sign and announced then and there that I would forever be known as “Nonna” to the grands.
“Nonna” left their lips shortly after the required “mama” and “daddy.”
The name ties the imprint to the thing these books are for: family, reading together, and stories handed from one generation to the next.

The Dancing Cat and Mouse
by Marilyn Duran, Leslie Stewart, Heidi Stewart
2021
In a very special collaboration, author Marilyn Duran, her daughter-in-law Leslie Stewart, granddaughter Heidi Stewart make use of their considerable talents to tell a heart-warming story about a cat and mouse who leave all the traditional scary stereotypes behind to become friends. Not only do they come to enjoy the violin music of an old man who lives in their house, but they also find great joy in dancing together. The Dancing Cat and Mouse is a great conversation starter when discussing diversity and acceptance with children.

Have a Children’sStory to Share?
ROMAR Press welcomes the opportunity to work with authors and illustrators creating meaningful books for young readers. A children's book is its own kind of project — words and pictures have to be made together — so the plan is built around what your book actually needs.
I'm happy to work with authors and illustrators of children's books... do contact me if you have a manuscript and/or illustrations.
Or schedule a consultation — Not sure your project has potential? Contact us for a free consultation to find out if collaboration with ROMAR Press fits your needs.
What a children’s book project can involve
- Manuscript development and editing
- Illustration coordination
- Book design and formatting
- Pre-press preparation
- ISBN numbers and bar codes
- Printing
- Distribution
As with every ROMAR title, services are scoped to the book rather than sold as a package, and the consultation is free.
Stories Meant to Be Shared
A Nonna Books title is written to be read aloud — on a lap, at bedtime, in a classroom circle. The best of them leave something to talk about afterwards: why the cat and the mouse became friends, what to do when you are sick and tired of being scared, whether a water tower can be lonely.
A great conversation starter when discussing diversity and acceptance with children.
