The House

On her way to a soldier’s funeral, Lee Ann drives through a West Texas town of abandoned homes. One of them, from chapter one:

“One large house on the left side of the road must have been beautiful when it was built. It was a two-story home with carved woodwork on its eaves and overhangs. Now the roof has sections missing and sags.”

This is that house, photographed under a full moon.

About the author

F. Mays
